The week of thanksgiving was quickly approaching. Two students, Natalie and Melanie, approached me. They asked if they could launch a cereal campaign for thanksgiving as the local food bank was in need. I thought it was a great idea. We met with the principal and she gave us full support and approval. I then presented the idea to our Spiritual Ministry Council. They were on board. We then asked our Youth Group and Student Council to get on board, they did. We then asked one of our many, much loved teachers, to get involved, he graciously agreed. He commenced the promotion of the campaign by announcing that the class that brought in the most boxes (per student) would be rewarded a gourmet breakfast prepared by his period one cooking class (Yum, Yum). The train was in motion. Announcements continued, human cereal boxes were created out of cardboard -which the students wore on announcements and during lunches, the teachers began classroom promotion, and to top it off, a giant cereal bowl was created in the main foyer. Our art teacher accented the bowl with a giant silver spoon. It was the largest cereal bowl you could imagine. It was an ambitious goal however with the leadership of our students: Katie, Shannon, Elise, Brittany, Miranda, Melanie and Natalie, together with the generosity and promotion of our teachers, we thought we may be able to fill that bowl. As the week progressed the bowl filled more and more each day. And yes, by Friday that bowl was indeed full, in fact overflowing. Well over 1,000 cereal boxes were collected to help feel the local poor.
Great work Bishop Tonnos High School. You have demonstrated your gratitude and appreciation for your gifts in life during this time of thanksgiving by graciously giving to others. That is what I call Greatness!!!!
